Project objective: to create 15 videos (whiteboard style, from 30 seconds to 5 minutes a piece) as rich media components of two elearning training courses created by Pathwise Solutions Inc. for the World Resources Institute on greenhouse gas protocol: the “policy & action standard” as well as the “mitigation goal standard”. Videos should be used to explain concepts and examples that were thought to be potentially better understood by the course participants with drawings as opposed to traditional Flash animations. When a whiteboard video is to be used in the course, the user is prompted to click on the whiteboard so the character can start the presentation (see screenshots).
How we did it: Given the amount of work needed to create all the illustrations for the 15 videos in under two months, I worked with artist and illustrator Alex Avelino to create all the original drawings. Using the scripts provided by Pathwise Solutions Inc., we brainstormed and came up with drawings to illustrate the voice-over. Illustrations were modified and approved through a couple of back and forth with Pathwise Solutions Inc. and the World Resources Institute. Once approved, I recorded them by drawing directly on my screen using a Wacom Intros 5 pen tablet and a white background in Photoshop while recording the screen as a movie using a screen recorder from the AppStore. Synchronization of drawings and voice-over and movie editing was done with Final Cut Pro X once the audio files were provided by Pathwise Solutions Inc.
