Gainsbourg: Charcoal

By August 30, 2012April 7th, 2014Drawing

Music and musicians inspire me a lot. Especially when they are a little rebellious (or even a lot in this case) and/or when they express their freedom in a powerful way. Today’s portrait is a tribute to Serge Gainsbourg: French poet, singer, song writer, artist, etc. For those of you who are not familiar with him, have a look at his wikipedia page. He wrote hundreds of songs, for himself and others and was extremely famous in France in the 80s. A movie was recently made about his life, which probably gave me the idea for this drawing after I watched it: Gainsbourg, a heroic life. The photo used for this drawing was found on Google images and I used charcoal, tortillon, eraser and kneaded eraser.
