Project objective: To create for Bob Willard and Sustainability Advantage a 3-minute video presenting the Sustainability Return on Investment (ROI) Workbook, a “book” cleverly disguised as an Excel workbook designed to help people build compelling business cases for their Sustainability Initiatives.
Video making process: Sustainability expert and copywriter Sarah Brooks wrote an original light-hearted script addressing sustainability champions who struggle to create the change they want to see in their business. Once the script finalized, I drew the illustrations using a female sustainability hero, a vending machine to represent the ROI workbook that does the work automatically and vibrant colours to add contrast and help with comprehension (a dark blue-gray for shading and a bright orange). I sent the drawings in a storyboard to Bob for review and feedback. We did a few changes to the drawings and approved the storyboard. I then drew all the illustrations from scratch again while recording the screen in video (see inside the creation of my videos for more details). Finally, I accelerated the drawing footage, synchronized illustrations with the voice-over (recorded by professional voice talent Vincent Tong) and put together the final video with background music and a call to action at the end designed to engage viewers to go and download the free and open-source sustainability ROI workbook.
